Kelly Haung

2022 Michael J. Lightfoot Scholarship Recipient

Kelly is majoring in Intelligence and Cyber Operations and pursuing a minor in East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Southern California. Originally from San Jose, California, she studies the intersection of cybersecurity and international relations.

As a first-generation, low-income student to immigrant parents, Kelly is passionate about advocating for underrepresented minorities in all fields of higher education, including STEM. On campus, she is involved with the Cybersecurity & Forensics Organization, First Generation Student Mentorship program, and Delta Phi Epsilon Foreign Service Society. Most recently, she received the Citizen Diplomacy Action Fund from the State Department, which she will use to develop a language education program for middle school students in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

This summer, she is interning with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency under the Department of Homeland Security. Kelly aspires to one day become an IT specialist in the Foreign Service. Her goals are to create more scholarship opportunities for future students and encourage them to not limit themselves to one field of study, but rather to pursue interdisciplinary learning throughout their lives.
